Dayna McLeod- we needed you

In creating this video, we aimed to mimic the snappy, DIY style that characterizes much of Dayna McLoud’s work. We not only wanted to do this as an experiment for our own film-making curiosity, but also because there are elements of her work that we perceived as more approachable than other films we’ve watched in this class, and we wanted to discover why. After experimenting with this style of editing, and looking further into McLoud’s body of work, we’ve narrowed it down to two qualities: A lack of academic references, while still maintaining a strong connection to feminist and queer theories, and a clear presence of her passion for the cause. Both qualities combine to create an entertainment factor that we agree make her films effective and thought provoking.

EDIT: In Dayna's work, we've noticed her tendency to play with and comment on performativity. One video in particular that this was apparent in was her Teabagging film, where the women participating in this beauty ritual were performing femininity, and the behaviours of middle aged women searching for a sense of female community.
